Description
Spanaway Elementary School is a new 2-story, 48,000 square-foot elementary school in Spanaway, WA. The school was designed as a "Green School" and includes an abundance of natural lighting, environmentally friendly construction, the latest school technology and a beautiful community garden. The community garden houses a new 12-bay greenhouse and utilizes a cistern tank for water storage to irrigate the garden plantings. Construction also included complete site development including the installation of a fire suppression system (the existing school did not have this technology) and two rain gardens.

Initially contracted for a 12 -month construction schedule, Synergy was able to complete the new elementary school in 11 months to make it available for use at the start of the new school year. The new school was constructed on a 7-acre site with the existing school still operational. The site, while large, did not afford a great deal of parking or consistent access because it was adjacent to the existing school that we were replacing. Due to the close proximity of the existing school and the hundreds of elementary-aged students creating extra traffic daily, there was an extreme focus on safety, communication and delivery planning.
